Deen Before Screen: Morning Sunnahs to Teach Kids
🕌 Why “Deen Before Screen” Matters for Kids
As Muslim parents and educators, we know mornings can set the tone for a child’s entire day. But in the age of tablets, phones, and YouTube autoplay—what if we flipped the script and taught our kids to start their day with the Sunnah instead of a screen? Introducing: the “Deen Before Screen” challenge—7 simple Sunnah habits your child can do every morning before breakfast (and before touching any device).
It’s more than just a routine—it’s a way to make the love of the Prophet ﷺ a real part of your child’s life.

✅ The “Deen Before Screen” Morning Sunnah Checklist
1. Say the Morning Duʿa
📖 “Alhamdulillahi allathee ahyana…”
Teach your child to begin the day by thanking Allah for life.
2. Brush with a Miswak or Toothbrush
🪥 Revive the sunnah of cleanliness. Even a toothbrush counts! Add a playful rhyme: “Brushy-brush before I munch!”
🌱 Bonus: Share the story of the Prophet ﷺ’s love for the miswak.
3. Say Bismillah Before Washing Up
🚿 Teach them to say “Bismillah” before using the bathroom or washing hands and face. Use stickers or visual cues near the sink.
4. Greet with Salaam
👋 Encourage them to say “Assalamu ʿalaykum” to everyone in the house. It builds warmth and earns rewards.
5. Dress with the Right Side First
👕 Teach the habit of putting on clothes with the right hand or foot first—like the Prophet ﷺ. Make it a fun challenge: “Right side gets a high five!”
6. Look Outside and Say the Duʿa for Daylight
🌤️ After opening curtains or stepping outside, say: “Asbahna wa asbahal mulku lillah…”
7. Make a Short Duʿa for the Day
🙏 Encourage a personal duʿa: “Ya Allah, help me be kind and finish my Quran page today.” Let them write or draw their own daily goal in an Iman Journal.
🧕 For Parents: Tips to Make It Stick
- Use a colorful Deen Routine Chart (printable or on a whiteboard)
- Celebrate consistency with stickers or stars
- Pair the routine with morning snuggles and a favorite breakfast
- Be the example—kids copy what they see!

💬 Final Thoughts
These Sunnah acts may seem small—but in the eyes of Allah, they’re mighty! When kids practice them consistently, they build not just habits, but hearts rooted in the love of Islam.
