What is Isra and Miraj?

Isra refers to the miraculous night journey where Prophet Muhammad ﷺ traveled from Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem — all in one night!

Miraj is the second part of the journey, where the Prophet ﷺ ascended through the heavens, meeting many prophets along the way and receiving the gift of Salah (prayer) for the Muslim Ummah.

One night, while Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was resting near the Kaaba, Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) came to him with a special animal called Buraq. Buraq was faster than anything on Earth!

• First stop: Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem, where the Prophet ﷺ led a prayer with all the previous prophets behind him.
• Then: He ascended through the skies, meeting Prophets like Adam, Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), and Isa (Jesus), peace be upon them all.
• Finally: He reached Sidrat al-Muntaha, a place beyond which no one can pass, and Allah gave him the command for Muslims to pray five times a day.
