🌟 My Favorite Ayah: Light in Darkness – Surah An-Nur 24:35

As Qur’an teachers, we often find ourselves drawn to certain verses that hold deep meaning — not just for us, but for our students as well. For me, my favorite ayah in Qur’an teaching:

Surah An-Nur (24:35):

“Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth…”

This verse, known as Ayat an-Nur – The Light Verse, compares Allah’s guidance to a radiant lamp shining through a crystal-clear glass. It is one of the most powerful and poetic passages in the Qur’an.

Why This Ayah is So Special for Teaching Children

Children love vivid imagery. When I explain that Allah’s light is like a glowing lamp, shining brightly inside a glass, they immediately picture it inside their own hearts. It becomes real, relatable, and comforting.

  • 🌟 Imagination & Faith: Kids can imagine the “light” of Qur’an glowing inside them.
  • 🌱 Spiritual Growth: It encourages them to connect recitation with inner guidance.
  • 💡 Practical Learning: They begin to see that every ayah they memorize adds more “light” to their soul.

The Impact on Students

When children reflect on this ayah, their eyes light up. Some say, “I want my heart to shine like that lamp!” This not only motivates them to recite more Qur’an but also teaches them that the Qur’an is not just words — it is light and life.

Reflection for Parents and Teachers

As parents and teachers, we can use Ayat an-Nur as a reminder that Qur’an learning is not about memorization alone. It is about nurturing the light of guidance within children. By reciting, understanding, and living by the Qur’an, our children’s hearts can glow with clarity and faith.

🌿 Key Takeaway

Surah An-Nur 24:35 teaches us that Allah’s guidance is like light — clear, pure, and illuminating. Teaching this to children helps them see Qur’an as their lifelong source of direction.

At Roots Muslim School, we love making these spiritual lessons simple and relatable for young learners. Every ayah is a doorway to deeper understanding, but Ayat an-Nur will always remain one of my favorite ones to teach.
