🌙 Our Daily Hijrah: How to Leave What Displeases Allah

When we hear the word Hijrah, we often think about the noble journey of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Makkah to Madinah. But Hijrah isn’t only about crossing borders—it’s also about crossing boundaries of the soul. This is the essence of our Daily Hijrah:
Leaving behind what Allah dislikes.
And moving—bit by bit—toward what He loves.

Daily Hijrah

💡 Hijrah Isn’t Just History. It’s a Mindset.

The companions of the Prophet ﷺ left behind idols, wealth, and comfort for the sake of Islam.
But what if our Hijrah today is about something smaller—but just as sincere?

  • Leaving backbiting in a WhatsApp group
  • Quitting one show that wastes your heart
  • Fighting the temptation to lie just once
  • Waking up for Fajr after pressing snooze three times

Every one of these moments can be a step of Hijrah.

🕊️ The Hadith That Redefines Migration

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“The true Muhajir is the one who leaves what Allah has forbidden.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)

This beautiful hadith reminds us: you don’t have to move cities to make Hijrah.
You can stay in your room—and still take a powerful step toward Jannah.

📚 Ibn al-Qayyim’s Insight: The Two Types of Hijrah

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله, the great scholar, explained that:

“Hijrah is of two types: One with the body from one land to another. The other, more important, is the migration of the heart—from what Allah dislikes to what He loves.”

This internal Hijrah—the Hijrah of the heart and soul—is open to every Muslim, every day.

For children, this can look like choosing the Qur’an over cartoons.
For teens, it might be walking away from gossip.
And for adults, it could mean prioritizing salah over screen time.

👨‍👩‍👧 How to Teach Daily Hijrah to Kids (and Yourself!)

At Roots Muslim School, we believe in practical Islamic education. Here’s how to bring this concept into your daily life:

  • 📓 Make a “Daily Hijrah” Journal: Have your child write one thing they’ll leave each week.
  • 💬 Ask Reflective Questions: “What’s one thing you want to leave for Allah today?”
  • 🧠 Use Visual Reminders: Post a sticky note on their desk or fridge with the hadith.
  • 🌱 Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection: Every small choice counts in the eyes of Allah.

📲 Daily Hijrah From the Heart to the Home:

Let this Muharram be more than a date on the calendar.
Let it be a turning point—where you and your family begin your Daily Hijrah.
