Eid Mubarak! How to Celebrate According to the Sunnah

🎉 What is Eid Mubarak?

Eid Mubarak is more than just a greeting; it signifies a joyous celebration for Muslims worldwide! There are two major Eids in Islam:

  • Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.
  • Eid al-Adha, celebrating Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) devotion to Allah.

As Muslims, we strive to follow the Sunnah (traditions) of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in our celebrations. But what are the Sunnah ways of celebrating Eid? Let’s explore!

🕌 Sunnah Practices for Eid Celebration

1️⃣ Performing Ghusl (Ritual Purification)

On the morning of Eid, Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) would perform ghusl (full-body purification) before heading to prayer. This symbolizes starting the blessed day in a state of cleanliness and purity.

👉 Sunnah Tip: Take a shower, wear your best clothes, and apply perfume (for men).

2️⃣ Eating Before Eid Salah (Eid al-Fitr)

For Eid al-Fitr, the Prophet (ﷺ) would eat dates before heading to prayer.

👉 Sunnah Tip: Eat an odd number of dates (e.g., 3, 5, or 7) before leaving for Eid Salah.

For Eid al-Adha, it is preferred to eat after the prayer, as the first meal should be from the sacrificed animal.

3️⃣ Reciting the Eid Takbeer

From Maghrib on the night before Eid until the Eid prayer, recite the Takbeer:

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La Ilaha Illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Wa Lillahil Hamd.

This reminds us to glorify Allah for allowing us to witness another Eid!

👉 Sunnah Tip: Recite this while heading to the mosque and at home with your family.

4️⃣ Attending the Eid Prayer in Congregation

The Prophet (ﷺ) encouraged men, women, and children to attend the Eid Salah.

  • Eid Salah consists of two rak’ahs with extra Takbeers.
  • It is best to pray in an open field (Musalla) if possible.

👉 Sunnah Tip: Take one route to the mosque and return home using another path!

5️⃣ Greeting Others with Joy & Spreading Smiles

After the prayer, Muslims greet each other warmly, saying:

“Taqabbal Allahu minna wa minkum”
(May Allah accept from us and from you!)

👉 Sunnah Tip: Greet your family, friends, and neighbors with kindness and make lots of du’a!

6️⃣ Giving Charity (Sadaqah & Zakat al-Fitr)

Before Eid Salah, every Muslim must give Zakat al-Fitr—a small charity for the poor.

👉 Sunnah Tip: Donate to those in need and increase your generosity.

7️⃣ Enjoying Halal Festivities & Family Time

Eid is a day of joy and celebration! It is encouraged to:
✅ Wear new or clean clothes
💚 Visit family and friends
✅ Share meals and gifts
💚 Engage in halal fun activities

👉 Sunnah Tip: Play with children, exchange gifts, and make others smile!

🎊 Final Thoughts: Making Eid Meaningful

Celebrating Eid according to the Sunnah brings both joy and blessings. By following the teachings of the Prophet (ﷺ), we make our Eid Mubarak truly special!

May Allah accept our deeds and grant us many more joyous Eids. Eid Mubarak! 🌙✨
